What IS Racism, Anyway?

"We have made enormous progress in teaching everyone that racism is bad. Where we seem to have dropped the ball… is in teaching people what racism actually IS." -- Jon Stewart.

First, we see racism at the voting booth...

"Georgia State Senator Complains That Voting Is Too Convenient For Black People (Updated)."

State Sen. Fran Millar (R-GA)
State Sen. Fran Millar (R-GA)
"One of Georgia’s largest counties announced last week that it will allow early voting on a Sunday in late October and will open an early voting location in a shopping mall popular among local African-Americans. Concerned that this will lead to higher African-American voter turnout and hurt his party’s dominance, one state lawmaker is speaking out and vowing to stop this easy voting for minority voters.

"The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported on Tuesday that Georgia state Senator Fran Millar (R) penned an angry response to DeKalb County’s announcement that early voting will be available on Sunday, October 26, and that an early-voting location will be opened at The Gallery at South DeKalb Mall. Millar represents part of the county and is Senior Deputy Whip for the Georgia Senate Republicans.

"Millar wrote: 'Now we are to have Sunday voting at South DeKalb Mall just prior to the election. Per Jim Galloway of the AJC, this location is dominated by African American shoppers and it is near several large African American mega churches such as New Birth Missionary Baptist...'"

As long as we have our police to protect us from the racists, we'll be safe...

"13 More 'Michael Brown' Police Killings We've Learned About In The Month Since His Death."

Associated Press
"In the month since unarmed black teenager Michael Brown was killed by a police officer, many cases of questionable police violence have resulted in deaths that raise issues similar to those brought to light by Brown's case.

"It has been exactly one month since Michael Brown was shot and killed by a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri. The unarmed black teen's death drew national attention to a number of issues about policing and equal treatment under the law that have long been of concern to the African-American community. How did a fatal confrontation sprout, when initial reports suggest that Brown was simply walking in the street? Why did Officer Darren Wilson fire six shots into Brown's body, including two to the head? Were Brown's hands in the air at the time the fatal shot was fired? Was such lethal force really necessary, even if investigators end up concluding Wilson's actions were justified? And if Wilson's actions were criminal, will Brown's family actually find justice?..."

Bigotry isn't confined to African-Americans or Latinos or women or Jews or Catholics or -- you name a group that isn't white and male, then the Conservative mindset takes over...

"Why Benching Sikhs Feeds the Trolls."

"On August 27, the international Sikh community experienced a painful setback when FIBA, the International Basketball Federation, announced that it will not reverse Article 4.4.2, which bans players from wearing dastaars (turbans) on the court. Instead FIBA delayed its decision, saying that the Technical and Legal Commissions '...shall study and present options to the Central Board.'

"When I first learned that Sikh players were told by FIBA that they must remove their dastaars before playing at the Japan-India game in mid-July of this year, I was appalled. As the first turbaned Sikh American to play basketball for an NCAA program, I can testify first-hand that informed governing bodies have permitted followers of the Sikh faith to proudly wear their turbans in games on the United States, Canada, and elsewhere. These respected athletic institutions reject FIBA's notion that religious head coverings 'may cause injury to other players' and recognize that these policies are discriminatory.

"Moreover, my teammates and I benefited from playing in a team that was diverse in both race and faiths. We confronted racism and xenophobia and anti-turban bias both on and off the court together, as a team, and these experiences propelled us in our careers and in our personal journeys.

"That's why when the Sikh American Legal Defense and Education Fund (SALDEF) and the Sikh Coalition used an image of me playing basketball in order to pressure FIBA to #LetSikhsPlay in an extensive media and lobbying effort, I was happy to let them do so..."

How DO Conservatives justify their bigotry?

"Black Gain Is White Pain -- How the White Right Justifies Racial Injustice."

"Talking Points Memo, 8/27/14:

"Conservative pundit Ben Stein appeared on Newsmax on Tuesday to discuss the fatal police shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., and challenged the use of the term 'unarmed' to describe Brown.

"Stein was discussing the shooting with host Steve Malzberg and said the use of the term 'unarmed' to describe Brown, who was 'apparently on marijuana,' was akin to 'calling Sonny Liston unarmed or Cassius Clay unarmed.'

"'He wasn't unarmed,' Stein said. 'He was armed with his incredibly strong, scary self.

"Stein mentioned both Michael Brown, the unarmed teen killed by a white police officer in Ferguson, Missouri, and Trayvon Martin, the unarmed white teen killed by George Zimmerman, who was not a police officer, but a member of a neighborhood watch.

"What to say? Here we have almost every meme born of 400 years of American race hatred rolled into one neat, bespectacled package in the form of Ben Stein.
  • We have the savage black buck whose dark skin and steely gaze threaten whites by simply existing in an unchained state.
  • We have the insistence that blacks submit to white men without complaint, who then have the right to maim or kill them should they 'mouth off' or fail to 'know their place.'
  • We have the return of black life as forfeit to any white man with the whim to take it and the gun with which to do it (open carry, anyone?)
"All told, we have the idea of blackness as a weapon, and thus use of other weapons are justified in protecting whites against it. And blackness as a weapon is just the violent outgrowth of the 'today's racism is against whites' lie so currently popular with the political right wing..."

So the Conservative racists and bigots better be prepared, because some people are starting to figure out what to do...

"Young black man warns Ferguson’s white establishment: 'We’ve got the power — you don’t.'"

young man at ferguson city council meeting via youtube

"During the first city council meeting in Ferguson, Missouri since Officer Darren Wilson shot and killed Michael Brown, black residents powerfully responded to how the city dealt with the shooting.

"A young man in a 'Peace Keeper' t-shirt who introduced himself as 'Mike Brown from Ground Zero' said that the problem with the white people at the meeting who claim to speak for the entire city 'do not represent us.' Although whites only make up 29 percent of Ferguson’s population, five of the six sitting city council members are white, as is Mayor James Knowles.

"'It is time for us to get suited and booted and kick their you-know-whats out of office,' he said. 'We’ve got the power — they don’t. We’re trying to figure out how this man, that man, the old man — the Man, the Man, the Man up there on his iPad who don’t care what we have to say. How do we get him out? We vote him out! We recall him out!'

"'A month ago, a young man was shot down several times, and that’s a fact,' the man said, alluding to a comment by an older, white male who earlier had yelled, 'You want facts? I’ll give you facts!...'"

Keep this in mind: Conservative racism isn't confined to the community, with an African American in the White House, it often goes higher than that...

"Texas Gun Shop CEO Posts Message Suggesting The Beheading Of A President Obama Family Member (Video)."

A few more of his favorite racist signs.
"A gun store CEO in the Houston area who has been no stranger to controversy thought it would be a splendid idea to post a message on a sign outside of the store which suggests that a member of President Obama’s family should be beheaded in order to get him to take the ISIS crisis serious enough and start indiscriminately bombing the hell out of the country instead of playing golf. Or something along those lines. The message of course is about the beheading of journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff at the hands of ISIS militants.

"More than likely, the message showed up because Jeremy Alcede, the CEO of Tactical Firearms, suffers from a severe case of Obama Derangement Syndrome and doesn’t care for liberals either. In fact, on his Facebook page, Alcede was excited over the possibility that local Houston news station KHOU would broadcast him calling liberals 'libtards,' a word which he apparently used during his interview with the station..."

All in all however, the President is a better man than these racists will ever be...

Racism is taught at home and until we can overcome the brainwashing our kids get at home from their racist parents we will never win the battle against bigotry, the bigotry that leads to murder after murder after murder.

We fought a civil war to eliminate slavery, propped up the Southern States afterwards to help integrate the Johnny Rebs back to American society, but as we discovered with the election of the first black president ever, racism and bigotry are alive and well in the Land of The Free.

Re-education camps may be the only answer to America's biggest mental health problem, racism.

Criminalizing Conservatism will make this easy.

"People know about the Klan and the overt racism, but the killing of one’s soul little by
little, day after day, is a lot worse than someone coming in your house and lynching you."

Samuel L. Jackson.
