Conservative Stupidity: Congenital Or Simply Willfull?

"Sometimes a man wants to be stupid if it lets him do a thing his cleverness forbids." John Steinbeck, East of Eden.

The old saying, "The Republican Party is made up of a few smart people and a whole lot of stupid ones," has never been so true as today.  But are the stupid ones genetically stupid, or are they playing the fool?  Is Rush Limbaugh a true believer or is he just the showman he claims to be? Is the GOP the Party of No because "no" just has two letters?

Let's examine the Conservative willfull stupidity first...

"CNN Anchor Lashes Out At Fox: 'You Willfully Ignorant F**ksticks.'"

Sipa USA / Patrick McMullan Co.
"CNN anchor Bill Weir lashed out at an arm of Fox News on Wednesday after it posted a tweet mocking Al Gore's efforts to combat global warming, calling the writers 'willfully ignorant f**ksticks.'

"The blog Fox Nation tweeted out an article on Wednesday night with the headline 'Climate Doesn’t Cooperate With Al Gore’s Group’s Visit to Denver EPA Hearings.' The article, which was aggregated from The Washington Times, detailed Climate Reality Project’s recent trip to Denver...'"

Then there's the natural stupidity...

"Blogger gets fired from language school for 'homophones'"

Tim Torkildson says he was fired from an English language learning center in Utah for writing a blog about homophones. (Source: Facebook)
Tim Torkildson says he was fired from an English language learning center in Utah for writing a blog about homophones. (Source: Facebook)
"A social media strategist for a Utah school that teaches English as a second language was fired for a blog post about homophones – words that sound alike but have a different meaning.

"Tim Torkildson was let go from the Nomen Global Language Center because his boss, Clark Woodger, thought it would make people think the school had a gay agenda because homophone sounds kind of like homosexual - or homophobe.

"According to Torkildson’s blog, Woodger said it was his last straw.

"'I’m letting you go because I can’t trust you.' Woodger said. 'This blog about homophones was the last straw. Now our school is going to be associated with homosexuality.'

"Torkildson said he was stunned into silence..."

Then there's the kind of Conservative stupidity that is made up of genes and willfullness...

"Stupid sh!t Louie Gohmert says: Hide yo wife, hide yo kids, they be raping everybody edition."

"Last week Louie Gohmert did a conference call with E.W.Jackson.

"Yup, it's time for this weeks edition of 'Drunk Current Events with Louie Gohmert.'

"Herein, Congressmen Gohmert explains that children fleeing to the southern US border were instructed to lie about why they came here so they can rape women, which means Obama is the real war on women. Also this is worse than if Iran nuked Israel or something..."

And what kind of stupidity has America's greatest propagandist inflicted upon his Dittoheads?

"Rush Limbaugh Brags That He’s Responsible for the Dumbing Down of America."

"Nothing quite like one of the most well known conservatives in media trying to take credit for the dumbing down of America.  But that’s what happened recently when Rush Limbaugh boasted about the fact that the United States leads the world in climate change deniers.

"Limbaugh said, 'Fifty-four percent of Americans agreed with the statement, "The climate change we are currently seeing is largely the result of human activity." Why would the U.S. be the leading nation with the highest amount of doubt about the conventional wisdom of climate change? Why do you think that would be?  I think that’s exactly right: Me. There’s just no other explanation...'"

But one thing we do know, if it sounds good the Conservatives are against it...

With the Reagans, it was definitely genetic...a blast from the past:

"White House Confirms Reagans Follow Astrology, Up to a Point."

"President Reagan and his wife, Nancy, are both deeply interested in astrology, the White House spokesman, Marlin Fitzwater, said today, and two former White House officials said Mrs. Reagan's concerns had influenced the scheduling of important events.

"A California astrologer said she had been consulted by the Reagans regarding key White House decisions, but Mr. Reagan said astrology had not influenced policy.

"Followers of astrology believe the alignment of stars and planets influences human affairs. Such people consult charts, based on their birth dates, for clues concerning many decisions.

"Mr. Fitzwater said Mrs. Reagan is particularly worried about the impact astrological portents can have on her husband's safety. But he declined to say exactly how Mrs. Reagan had used astrological information. And the President, answering a question at a photo-taking session, said, 'No policy or decision in my mind has ever been influenced by astrology...'"

Here's what stupidity brings to Conservatism...

So whether it's stupidity or whether it's lies there's little you can do to cure the Cons - but you can give it a try...

"3 Ways To Drive Conservatives Insane: Debunking Right Wing Lies."

"One of the surest ways or enraging conservatives is through debunking right wing lies, particular the ones most commonly seen on Facebook, Twitter and beyond. Here is this weeks handy list of right wing lies we have taken the time to correct..."

Scientists are using eye-tracking devices to detect automatic response differences between liberals and conservatives. University of Nebraska-Lincoln
There's no getting around it, studies have consistently shown that Conservatives are much dumber than normal people, much more fearful than the rest of us, and "All of this matters, of course, because we still operate in politics and in media as if minds can be changed by the best honed arguments, the most compelling facts. And yet if our political opponents are simply perceiving the world differently, that idea starts to crumble. Out of the rubble just might arise a better way of acting in politics that leads to less dysfunction and less gridlock…thanks to science."

Or we can just criminalize Conservatism and not have to put up with these fearful dummies any longer.
