Treason: Just Another Conservative Strategy

Just before the Election, Taradactyl of the wrote a piece accusing the GOP of treason in an article called, "Treason: Just Another Republican Election Strategy."  We now know that the Conservative dirty tricks were not enough to swing the Election to the GOP, but the article is important in light of the prior piece on this site, "Conservatism: Treasonous Or Seditious?"

The answer appears to be: Both.  From Taradactyl:

"Republicans cannot legitimately win elections on the basis of their failed ideology and trickle-down history of crashing the economy twice in a century, so they commit all sorts of offenses against the land they pretend to love – including lying, cheating and yes – even treason.

"As we get closer to the November Presidential election, we see their efforts ramping up. You see, Republicans don’t care to live in a free nation of laws that reflects the self-governing will of the people and promotes the GENERAL welfare. They want to win – at any cost – and if the pesky 'will of the people' gets in the way, then they usurp the will of the people. Don’t let the (made in China) American flag lapel pins and teary-eyed renditions of 'America the Beautiful' fool you. They are all part of the ruse to drag us back to the very system we fought a revolution to escape – namely, one where the rich own and run everything while everyone else knows their 'place.'

The article traces treasonous behavior by the American Fascists who were Conservatives in disguise before the advent of World War II; by Nixon, Reagan, Bush in 2000; and Bush in 2004.

"In fact, as Thom Hartmann explains, there have been 5 different presidents since Dwight Eisenhower left office in 1961 – and every single one of them have been illegitimate. From Richard Nixon to George W. Bush, they have all taken the highest office in the land with the help of lies, fraud and treason – NOT through the legitimate electoral process so many have given their lives for."   (Watch Hartmann here -->

Republican Voter Suppression

"Republicans can’t legitimately win elections on the field of ideas, so they make sure to limit access to the voting booth to populations that traditionally vote Democratic. If that isn’t treasonous, I don’t know what is.

"As Salon reported, In a recent deposition, Former Florida Republican Party chairman Jim Greer said, “in a December 2009 meeting with party officials. 'I was upset because the political consultants and staff were talking about voter suppression and keeping blacks from voting,' he said, according to the Tampa Bay Times. He also said party officials discussed how 'minority outreach programs were not fit for the Republican Party,' according to the AP.

"The comments, if true (he is facing felony corruption charges and has an interest in scorning his party), would confirm what critics have long suspected. Florida Gov. Rick Scott is currently facing inquiries from the Justice Department and pressure from civil rights groups over his purging of voter rolls in the state, an effort that critics say has disproportionately targeted minorities and other Democratic voters. One group suing the state claims up to 87 percent of the voters purged from the rolls so far have been people of color, though other estimates place that number far lower. Scott has defended the purge, even though he was erroneously listed as dead himself on the rolls in 2006.” (From Salon. Read the rest here.

"Republican Voter Suppression tactics aren’t isolated to Florida – they are a nation wide epidemic.

"Former Michigan Gov. Jennifer M. Granholm says,

“'In November, five million eligible voters will find it harder to exercise their rights in America — 150 voter suppression laws have been introduced [by the GOP] in 30 state legislatures across the country.' We have to take note of what’s occurring. In their zeal to win an election, the GOP is dismantling our democracy and bringing back laws akin to Jim Crow in their effort to suppress the vote for people of color, the poor, the elderly and our youth.'

Republican Obstruction: To Harm The People for Political Gain

"As Robert Draper revealed in his book, Do Not Ask What Good We Do: Inside the U.S. House of Representatives… during a four hour, 'invitation only' meeting on Jan. 20, 2009, Republicans who were elected to do 'the People’s work' met on & literally hatched the plot to sabotage, undermine & destroy the U.S. economy as a 2012 election strategy by repeatedly blocking President Obama’s every attempt to fix CON failures to ensure he would not be re-elected. House members Cantor, Hensarling, Hoekstra, Lungren, McCarthy, Ryan & Sessions…Senate members, Coburn, Corker, DeMint, Ensign & Kyl… conspired with unelected Newt Gingrich & Repug strategist Frank Luntz to bring the government to a screeching halt & harm the American People for political gain.

"Business Insider‘s Michael Brendan Dougherty revealed on Real Time with Bill Maher that an unnamed Republican Senator told him that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell had issued orders to the Republican caucus to block any and every attempt to fix the economy the Republicans destroyed in the first place.

"'I spoke to a Senator earlier this week, and he told me that, a Republican Senator told me that Mitch McConnell has told his conference that "We’re not doing anything, we won’t make a single move between now and the election, because any move could be risky, and all of the shit is sliding down on President Obama."

"So, they’re not going to do anything, they’ve talked about this very clearly among themselves.

"So Republicans will play their obstructionist fiddle while the dwindling American middle class metaphorically burns – because to do something – anything - carries the “risk” that the economy might improve – and that might benefit Democrats.

"If putting the power of your party over the lives of your countrymen and success of your country and isn’t treason, what is?

Republican Propaganda and Lies

"Republicans are so confident that they have their 'average Joe' followers successfully under control, they simply lie to their faces with impunity. These dupes are so brainwashed, they’ve been taught to mistrust anyone who dare challenge them with facts. It’s the perfect storm of stupid reflected by the recent study that found those who watch Fox News toactually less informed than those who watch no news at all.

"The lies are so blatant, so egregious and outrageous, it speaks to the fact that the Republican leadership actually disdains the dupes they pretend to represent – and they certainly don’t respect them.

"In a testament to the extremely low intelligence of their viewers, Faux News brazenly operates its protection racket, confident that the outright lies they peddle will never cause their moronic viewers to stop supporting Republicans – the very political party that operates to ensure the impossible 'American Dream' remains only a dream as they turn America into a Feudal state.

"Recently it was reported that Fox News viewers were more apt to believe outright untruths in regard to issues facing our country. In the days of Edward R. Morrow or Walter Cronkite, this would have been an utter failing and heads would have rolled from the top down, but the executives at Fox still sit enshrined on their thrones, comfortable in the knowledge that their jobs are secure as long as they continue to mislead the loyal scores of village idiots whose boob-tube sit locked to their channel.

"Fox News’ mission is to support the myth that the economic and political Hell that always seems to be left in the wake of any Republican power grab is solely coincidental, and can be blamed, not on the economic royalists who use their positions of power to ingratiate themselves, but on the very systems (such as, unions) that were meant to protect the People from the exploitations of the powerful.

"Just like the Downing Street Memo stated that the facts were being fixed around the policy to make sure Bush would be able to kill more Americans because he wanted a war, Fox fixes the facts around their policy of making sure whatever they report makes Republicans look good and Democrats look bad.

"But, make no mistake. The CON media simply echo the lies of the CON leadership – creating an echo chamber of misinformation and propaganda.

"Though I’m sure the freakish CONS will protest and say, 'Hey! It isn’t "treason" to pretend to be a news channel.' If pretending to be a news channel harms the country, I would say 'that’s debatable.' But if that brand of lying isn’t treason, lying the nation into an illegal war of aggression certainly is – as the illegitimate President George W. Bush, Dick Cheney and their co-conspirators did when they used the 911 attacks on this nation as a pretext to start a war they wanted for decades. In fact, an exhaustive examination of the record shows that the Bush Administration (including Dick Cheney, Condoleezza Rice and Donald Rumsfeld) made at least 935 false statements in order to lie the country into engaging in a war of aggression - what the chief American prosecutor at the Nuremberg Trials, Robert H. Jackson, stated called the 'supreme international crime."  To initiate a war of aggression, therefore, is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole.

"These traitorous, treasonous, actions point to the fact that if we are ever to restore America to greatness, the Republican Party should be relegated to permanent minority status – as it was during the 50 years of United States history known as 'The Great Prosperity.'”

From our Page on "Punishments,"

"Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort. No person shall be convicted of treason unless on the testimony of two witnesses to the same overt act, or on confession in open court.

"The Congress shall have power to declare the punishment of treason, but no attainder of treason shall work corruption of blood, or forfeiture except during the life of the person attainted."

(from The Constitution, Section 3.)

If treason is associated with levying war against the United States, then the GOP through its spokesman Grover Norville has treasonously declared war on his own country when he says, "My goal is to cut government in half in twenty-five years, to get it down to the size where we can drown it in the bathtub."

From the Wiktionary: "Formerly, the punishment for high treason was of a most barbarous character…. Women were burnt. A male traitor was dragged or drawn to the place of execution and hanged; but while still alive, he was cut down and disembowelled. His head was then severed from his body which was quartered. The head and quarters, which were at the Kings disposal, were usually exposed in some conspicuous place—the Temple Bar being a favourite spot—after being boiled in salt to prevent putrification and in cumin seed to prevent birds feasting on them." A televised reality show featuring Grover Norville being disembowelled might be incentive to cease and desist for many of the others.

"If a subversive act has any tendency to weaken the power of the United States to attack or resist its enemies, aid and comfort has been given.

"The Treason Clause applies only to disloyal acts committed during times of war. (And since pundits from both sides have maintained that we've been at war since the Iraq invasion, this could be interpreted by a non-impartial judge to apply Conservative "evildoers.")

"Under Article III a person can levy war against the United States without the use of arms, weapons, or military equipment. Persons who play only a peripheral role in a conspiracy to levy war are still considered traitors under the Constitution if an armed rebellion against the United States results. After the U.S. Civil War, for example, all Confederate soldiers were vulnerable to charges of treason, regardless of their role in the secession or insurrection of the Southern

"Treason is punishable by death. If a death sentence is not imposed, defendants face a minimum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine (18 U.S.C.A. § 2381). A person who is convicted of treason may not hold federal office at any time thereafter." *

Sedition and treason are explosive charges to lay before the Conservatives' tools - the leaders and followers of the GOP - but please read the essay by Taradactyl ( in its entirety before making up your mind.  Charges of murder and theft have been made against the Republican leadership in the past, but adding treason and sedition to the Conservatives' rap sheet only adds to the certainty that Conservatism is a criminal enterprise and must be criminalized before our democracy will continue to succeed.  We ignore the Conservatives' relentless plotting at our peril.
