In yesterday's posting, "Conservative Debating Techniques, Redux," an addition to our Page, "Conservative Rhetoric," we described the "Gish Gallop," one of the most frequently used tool of the far-right when debating their hopeless philosophy that cloaks their underlying goal of achieving an American feudal society.
Facebook persona, The Marquis de Suave, member of the redoubtable League of Extraordinary Internet Trolls, has taken apart the rhetoric of the slimy David Siegel, the founder and CEO of giant timeshare company Westgate Resorts, who sent an opus-like email to this workers, threatening to fire everybody in his company if they don't vote the way he wants them to.
From the Marquis de Suave, with retroactive thanks, and in its entirety:
"DAVID SIEGEL IS A HUGE BAG OF DOUCHE"
This is my response to David Siegel, the "Time Share KING" who has threatened to fire everybody in his employment if they don't vote the way he wants them to vote.
This is long as hell, but I think it's worth a read. Please do LIKE and SHARE this article if you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it (I really enjoyed writing it btw).
ssage from David SiegelDate:Mon, 08 Oct 2012 13:58:05 -0400 (EDT)From: [David Siegel]To: [All employees]
"To All My Valued Employees,"
Whom I am going to fire if I don't get my way.
"As most of you know our company, Westgate Resorts, has continued to succeed in spite of a very dismal economy."
Westgate Resorts, in that most ETHICAL of industries, TIME SHARES, which by the way are the WORST investment an individual can make in their lifetimes. But okay, you guys were successful at suckering people out of their money in a "very dismal economy".
"There is no question that the economy has changed for the worse and we have not seen any improvement over the past four years. "
David, I know you are speaking to a captive audience because you are their boss, however, I don't work for you... no, scratch that, I would NEVER work for somebody like you for all the money we owe to China so I can flat out say, how full of crap are you? You were the guy who BRAGGED about getting George W. Bush into office over Gore in 2000. Now the economy completely tanked DUE TO THE GUY YOU WANTED IN OFFICE, you are going to play the blame game?
Sir, you are a bag of douche.
"In spite of all of the challenges we have faced, the good news is this: The economy doesn't currently pose a threat to your job."
Wait, so the dismal economy, yet it doesn't pose a threat to anybody's job? So why are you complaining?
"What does threaten your job however, is another 4 years of the same Presidential administration."
Oh, the black guy, who inherited an economy that YOUR guy Bush created, that you just said "doesn't pose a threat to anybody's job". Why wasn't it a threat to their jobs during the last four years he was IN F$^#ING OFFICE!?
"Of course, as your employer, I can't tell you whom to vote for, and I certainly wouldn't interfere with your right to vote for whomever you choose. In fact, I encourage you to vote for whomever you think will serve your interests the best."
Except now, David is going to tell them what their best interests are by telling them they will lose their jobs if the President who didn't affect the company's bottom line for the last 4 years ends up getting elected for another 4 years.
There's intellectual dishonesty, and there's being almost completely full of crap. David is a bit of both. Well done, Mitt Romney should take notes.
"However, let me share a few facts that might help you decide what is in your best interest."
The operative part of that sentence is "help you decide what is in your best interest." Like threatening to fire people if David doesn't get his way.
"The current administration and members of the press have perpetuated an environment that casts employers against employees. "
No David, Employers perpetuated this environment by busting unions, sending jobs overseas, cutting benefits, fighting against safety standards in the workplace, etc, etc, etc.
The press is only reporting EXACTLY what's going on.
"They want you to believe that we live in a class system where the rich get richer, the poor get poorer."
Says the guy who made a couple of billion dollars by selling nearly worthless real estate to a lot of people who can't afford it.
Did you ever see GLENGARRY, GLEN ROSS? It's about a bunch of desperate salesmen who are selling a bunch of worthless real estate on crappy land to clueless people, the salesmen, they were working for a company EXACTLY like WESTGATE RESORTS. That's the kind of person David Siegel is ladies and gentlemen.
By the way David, have you noticed that little thing called "The GAP BETWEEN THE RICH IN THE POOR"? That gap has gotten HUGE. It's not "what they want you to believe", it's what's F$^#ING HAPPENING, YOU DOLT!!!
"They label us the "1%" and imply that we are somehow immune to the challenges that face our country."
Well David, you're not immune to things like heart problems or cancer, here's hoping you get both of them at the same time you loathsome scumbag.
"This could not be further from the truth. Sure, you may have heard about the big home that I'm building."
David, you built a 90,000 square foot monstrosity that TWO PEOPLE ARE GOING TO LIVE IN. TWO PEOPLE. Largest single family home in recorded history.
"I'm sure many people think that I live a privileged life."
David, statements like this are the exact reason why people dislike rich people in America. YOU LIVE A PRIVILEGED LIFE, YOU JUST MADE A 90,000 SQUARE FOOT HOME FOR YOU AND YOUR WIFE, YOU ARE PRIVILEGED!!! YOU BUILT THAT, OWN IT.
I don't begrudge Bill Gates for being a billionaire. He built something, he donates a lot of that money to charity. I don't begrudge Warren Buffet for being a billionaire. I don't begrudge anybody for making money in the US. I do begrudge a douchebag who makes a the largest home that two people could possibly need and then says "I'M SURE MANY PEOPLE THINK I LIVE A PRIVILEGED LIFE", because a person who says a statement like this is INTELLECTUALLY DISHONEST.
David, I realize you made a fortune selling worthless property to stupid people. Don't think for a second that anybody is that stupid to buy your last worthless statement.
"However, what you don't see or hear is the true story behind any success that I have achieved."
Sigh. To paraphrase Steve Buscemi in Reservoir Dogs, I am rubbing my two fingers together in an effort to mimic a tiny violin in an effort to play a sad song for misjudged billionaire David Siegel.
Pour yourself a drink, ladies and gentlemen, this s#%$ is about to get real.
Again, I'd like to preface this statement with the fact that I do not begrudge people for being rich. I'm even less likely to be cynical about their wealth if they made their empire by themselves, as David is about to tell us. What I do begrudge is somebody who is completely full of feces. David is about to prove how full of feces he actually is in ONE paragraph.
"I started this company over 42 years ago. At that time, I lived in a very modest home. I converted my garage into an office so I could put forth 100% effort into building a company, which by the way, would eventually employ you."
That's a noble first statement Mr. Siegel, a noble statement that is totally ruined when you mention that you're their boss. The same boss that is going to threaten to fire everybody if you don't see things his way by voting for whom HE wants as President.
By the way, Warren Buffet still lives in the same modest home he always has had. He didn't go for the bling and build a 90000 square foot home for he and his family. Heck, David Siegel's home only houses he and his wife. The staff doesn't even live in the house, they live in another home that David built for them that he WILL CHARGE THEM RENT ON TO LIVE IN.
"We didn't eat in fancy restaurants or take expensive vacations because every dollar I made went back into this company. I drove an old used car, and often times, I stayed home on weekends, while my friends went out drinking and partying. In fact, I was married to my business — hard work, discipline, and sacrifice."
The violin music is getting louder now. A crescendo is about to be played.
David, if you poured "every dollar" you made back into the company, how did you PAY for things like your mortgage, food, property tax, etc, etc, etc?
"Meanwhile, many of my friends got regular jobs. They worked 40 hours a week and made a nice income, and they spent every dime they earned. They drove flashy cars and lived in expensive homes and wore fancy designer clothes. My friends refinanced their mortgages and lived a life of luxury. I, however, did not. I put my time, my money, and my life into this business —-with a vision that eventually, some day, I too, will be able to afford to buy whatever I wanted. Even to this day, every dime I earn goes back into this company."
Every dime goes back into the company, except the millions of dollars that David Siegel has given to Republican candidates, the many homes he owns, the cars he owns, and the 5.4 million dollars he lost in a sexual harassment lawsuit. David Siegel also offered to pay the same employee ONE MILLION DOLLARS to have sex with him. But those were DOLLARS, not DIMES. Every DIME he earns goes right back into the company.
"Over the past four years I have had to stop building my dream house, cut back on all of my expenses, and take my kids out of private schools simply to keep this company strong and to keep you employed."
Actually, David had to stop building his dream house because of a bad investment to purchase the PH Towers in Vegas where he couldn't secure funding in 2009-11.
The bad investment almost bankrupted the company and had nothing to do with taxes or Obama's policies. He simply bit off a piece of the pie he couldn't possibly afford to chew on.
Again, those violins are playing really loud now.
"Just think about this – most of you arrive at work in the morning and leave that afternoon and the rest of your time is yours to do as you please. But not me- there is no "off" button for me. When you leave the office, you are done and you have a weekend all to yourself. I unfortunately do not have that freedom. I eat, live, and breathe this company every minute of the day, every day of the week."
He lives for his work, except when he's attending 50K a plate dinner fundraisers for political candidates, and when he's sexually harassing his workers, and when he's building his 90000 square foot dream house., and when he's playing golf and when he's flying around the world on vacations at destinations that 90% of Americans can only dream about. Other than that, he has no freedom and is a workaholic.
"There is no rest. There is no weekend. There is no happy hour. I know many of you work hard and do a great job, but I'm the one who has to sign every check, pay every expense, and make sure that this company continues to succeed. Unfortunately, what most people see is the nice house and the lavish lifestyle. What the press certainly does not want you to see, is the true story of the hard work and sacrifices I've made."
Violins cut to the crescendo.
Yes David, you are a hard worker and the entire company depends on you, which doesn't really say much about your management style. A good organization functions just as well when the head of the company isn't there. You are saying that the company owes everything to you and your hard work, then you say "I know MANY of you work hard and do a great job". WTF does that mean? How many people is "many"? I would think that you hire almost ALL competent people to do their jobs to make you money so you can do things like build a 90K square foot home. Are you saying that a good percentage of people, let's say 33% suck at their job? Then that doesn't say much about your organization as a whole, now does it? That or your a horrible boss who hates a good percentage of your ownworkforce and thinks they are doing a crap job.
There's a big difference between MANY and MOST.
By the way, David Siegel's company is PRIVATELY OWNED, which means he doesn't share the profits with shareholders when he strikes Gold, nor does he have to answer to anybody but the banks he takes loans from to purchase property.
"Now, the economy is falling apart and people like me who made all the right decisions and invested in themselves are being forced to bail out all the people who didn't."
No David, the economy isn't falling apart NOW. It was falling apart when we under the leadership of George W. Bush, a man whom you BACKED FINANCIALLY IN HIS RUN TO BECOME POTUS. A man whom you bragged openly about financing to defeat Al Gore in 2000.
And when you say "being forced to bail out all the people who didn't", do you mean the bailout of the BANKS who DID NOT MAKE THE RIGHT DECISIONS? Because I'm pretty certain that those same banks that made bad decisions during the financial collapse actually LOAN YOU MONEY.
Or are you talking about common people who lost their jobs during the collapse and are now scraping to get by in a world of lower wages?
David Siegel makes it seem like the only thing that separates people like him and the common man is that he alone was willing to sacrifice everything to make his company work. Sorry David, that's not how reality works, and it shows you to be a completely out-of-touch bag of douche.
"The people that overspent their paychecks suddenly feel entitled to the same luxuries that I earned and sacrificed 42 years of my life for."
Oh, that's right, the people who "overspent their paychecks" suddenly feel entitled to a 90000 square foot mansion, or feel entitled to spend millions of dollars on political candidates that they want in office. Yes, that totally makes sense now Mr. Siegel, you big bag of douche.
"Yes, business ownership has its benefits, but the price I've paid is steep and not without wounds."
Wounds that David Siegel has high priced hookers lick clean for him in one of his many indoor swimming pools, which I guess is one of the benefits of business ownership.
"Unfortunately, the costs of running a business have gotten out of control, and let me tell you why: We are being taxed to death and the government thinks we don't pay enough."
You mean the cost of doing business in the USA? David, you're a BILLIONAIRE, or at least you were one until you almost bankrupted your company that you alone run by making a very risky decision to invest in a huge apartment building that you turned into a time share complex. A move I might add that was done during a BAD ECONOMY. If that investment that you made through taking out huge loans from banks ended up tanking and you go out of business and your employees get downsized, do you want them to starve? Become homeless? Or are they going to HAVE TO rely on a safety net that in place for just such an occasion?
"We pay state taxes, federal taxes, property taxes, sales and use taxes, payroll taxes, workers compensation taxes and unemployment taxes. I even have to hire an entire department to manage all these taxes."
And yet despite all of these taxes, somehow, some way, David Siegel is somehow able to scrap together just enough money to be considered a BILLIONAIRE and employ a workforce, MANY of whom make 6 figure salary, at the same time. On top of all those taxes, Mr. Siegel has been able to get just enough money together to build the MOST EXPENSIVE HOME THAT HAS EVER BEEN BUILT.
Gosh Mr. Siegel, I pity you and your billion dollars.
"The question I have is this: Who is really stimulating the economy? Is it the Government that wants to take money from those who have earned it and give it to those who have not, or is it people like me who built a company out of his garage and directly employs over 7000 people and hosts over 3 million people per year with a great vacation?"
The question I have to Mr. Siegel is this: Who in the Hell do you think you are fooling here? You worked hard, yes. You keep drilling that into our heads, we get it, you're a hard worker who built a company that sold worthless time shares to whatever sucker you could con out of their money. The government is there to help enhance the lives of it's citizens, ESPECIALLY in what you call "dismal financial times". Those dismal financial times occurred due to a President that you financially backed with MILLIONS OF DOLLARS in campaign donations so you could get a larger tax cut at a time when he took the US to war in Iraq, which ended up costing the US another trillion or so dollars towards the national debt.
Now you are going to pretend that the financial collapse occurred in a vacuum and Obama caused it all? Again Mr. Siegel, you put out this email to people who HAVE TO LISTEN TO YOU BECAUSE YOU ARE THEIR BOSS. I am not employed by you, so I can call a spade a spade and say you are completely full of poop.
"Obviously, our present government believes that taking my money is the right economic stimulus for this country."
Question Mr. Siegel, how much did your taxes go up in this dismal economy? Answer: ZERO. It didn't go up one single dime.
"The fact is, if I deducted 50% of your paycheck you'd quit and you wouldn't work here. I mean, why should you? Who wants to get rewarded only 50% of their hard work? Well, that's what happens to me."
Who's tax rate in the US is 50% Certainly not yours, and certainly not the tax rate of Mitt "14.1%" Romney.
By the way, Mr. Siegel's 90000 square foot mansion has multiple indoor pools, so cry him a river so he can fill them up.
"Here is what most people don't understand and the press and our Government has chosen to ignore – to stimulate the economy you need to stimulate what runs the economy."
Actually Mr. Siegel, most of us are very cognizant of what grows the economy: BUSINESS. There is no denying that fact. What most of us are also cognizant of is that there is a huge gap in the wealth of this nation, and now that the bill has come due for policies that Mr. Siegel wholeheartedly endorsed like a lower tax rate, multiple wars and an economic collapse that MOST Americans had nothing to do with, he's going to complain from his 90000 square foot mansion that this is going to bankrupt him? F$^# all of that.
You broke it, you bought it Mr. Siegel.
"Instead of raising my taxes and depositing that money into the Washington black-hole, let me spend it on growing the company, hire more employees, and generate substantial economic growth."
Mr. Siegel, is that the same Washington black hole that pays for the military? Pays for the infrastructure upkeep? Pays for the police, fire department, national security, treasury department and other departments that employ people who keep you safe while you sleep?
"My employees will enjoy the wealth of that tax cut in the form of promotions and better salaries."
Mr. Siegel, you have had the Bush tax cuts in place for over 10 years now. Why aren't your employees already getting paid more then? Oh, I forgot, you were too busy losing those salary increases to things like sexual harassment lawsuits and building your dream mansion. My bad, truly.
"But that is not what our current Government wants you to believe. They want you to believe that it somehow makes sense to take more from those who create wealth and give it to those who do not, and somehow our economy will improve. They don't want you to know that the "1%", as they like to label us, pay more than 31% of all the taxes in this country."
Yes David, the 1% pays more than 31% of all the taxes in this great nation. What he fails to mention is that the same 1% also controls FAR MORE THAN 31% OF THE NATIONS WEALTH.
"Thomas Jefferson, the author of our great Constitution, once said, "democracy" will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not."'
That's a great quote, except Thomas Jefferson NEVER EVER SAID THAT OR WROTE THAT. Here's my souce.
"David Siegel's intellectual dishonesty holds no bounds." - Marquis de Suave
You can quote me on that.
"Business is at the heart of America and always has been. To restart it, you must stimulate business, not kill it. "
I agree with that statement. So when Mr. Siegel was paying a fair tax rate under Clinton, did the economy get killed, or did it thrive?
That question is rhetorical.
"However, the power brokers in Washington believe redistributing wealth is the essential driver of the American economic engine. Nothing could be further from the truth and this is the type of change they want."
You mean the "change" of having a government that can pay its bills by FAIRLY taxing those who control most of the wealth in this nation?
"So where am I going with all this? It's quite simple. If any new taxes are levied on me, or my company, as our current President plans, I will have no choice but to reduce the size of this company. Rather than grow this company I will be forced to cut back. This means fewer jobs, less benefits and certainly less opportunity for everyone."
Because David Siegel needs more than a billion dollars in a time when MOST of the nation is struggling to pay for things like keeping a roof over their heads, making sure their children are educated in public schools so they can hopefully achieve a better life, so they can feed their family, so they can pay for an increasingly unfair Ponzi scheme called HEALTH INSURANCE.
Facts are, if the tax rates go back to Clinton era levels and David Siegel will STILL BE BLOODY WEALTHY IN WAYS MOST ALL AMERICANS CAN ONLY DREAM ABOUT. He can still employ just as many people, he can offer them the same benefits, he can offer them the same raises. He might not make as much money per year, but he doesn't have to worry about the things I have stated above. His worries are more in the line of "how many hookers can I fly down to my huge mansion this weekend while my wife is away" or "how many sexual harassment lawsuits can I settle" or "how many cars can I own" or "can I fit another 10000 square feet upon the mansion my wife and I live in" or "do you think my employee with have sex with me if I offer her ONE MILLION DOLLARS".
"So, when you make your decision to vote, ask yourself, which candidate understands the economics of business ownership and who doesn't?"
The better question is, when you make your decision to vote, do you want your billionaire boss who is now claiming poverty to tell you who to vote for when you can barely keep your own boat afloat?
"Whose policies will endanger your job?"
The only policies who are endangering David Siegel's employees jobs are those that are solely made by David Siegel. He has had no tax increases since Obama took office, yet makes it seem like he's going to go into the poor house if the taxes are increased by a single cent. Obama never once said he was going to increase taxes to 50%, that's just projection of a guy who believes his own BS. A fair tax rate to pay down a massive deficit that was well in place before Obama even took office is what is needed right now.
David Siegel would rather pay millions for George Bush to wreck the economy rather than pay a single dime to help fix the economy. And that's all you really need to know about David Siegel.
"Answer those questions and you should know who might be the one capable of protecting and saving your job. While the media wants to tell you to believe the "1 percenters" are bad, I'm telling you they are not."
Actually Mr. Siegel is in fact telling us the 1% are bad by his own words alone. Congratulations: YOU BUILT THAT!
"They create most of the jobs. If you lose your job, it won't be at the hands of the "1%"; it will be at the hands of a political hurricane that swept through this country."
Yes, the hurricane that's building and rebuilding the infrastructure of our great nation, feeding the hungry, helping the sick. Do you know the definition of "hurricane"?
"You see, I can no longer support a system that penalizes the productive and gives to the unproductive. My motivation to work and to provide jobs will be destroyed, and with it, so will your opportunities. If that happens, you can find me in the Caribbean sitting on the beach, under a palm tree, retired, and with no employees to worry about."
Great, the US doesn't need you Mr. Siegel. Please do retire, you've obviously worked very hard and maybe all those long hours has done something to your soul. Somebody will come up an work just as hard as you claim and fill the void you leave behind. Do a John Galt manuever, leave the nation with your billions. Somebody will always be there to pick up the slack you leave. Mind you, my hope is that the next person who becomes the "time share KING" isn't nearly as intellectually dishonest or full of crap as you most certainly are. Hopefully that somebody believes that America as a concept only works when EVERYBODY IS SHARING IN THE WEALTH OF THE NATION, not just the 1%, when their children are educated, when they don't fear getting fired because their boss doesn't lean their way politically, when they are making enough money that their basic needs are fulfilled and they are allowed to save a few of their own hard earned dollars so they too can have a better life.
I can see that this is an America that Mr. Siegel doesn't want to live in. So by all means Mr. Siegel, F$^*ING LEAVE, you will not be missed.
"Signed, your boss,
I forgot to mention it again, but Mr. Siegel, you sir are a HUGE BAG OF DOUCHE.
Signed, your nemesis,
Marquis de Suave
Siegel is obviously trying to exploit what he thinks is his employees' stupidity for the sake of putting a few more dollars in his pockets in the Cayman island, but the stupidity of the average Conservative sheeplet (The "Third Basic Law of Stupidity," A stupid person is a person who causes losses to another person or to a group of persons while himself deriving no gain and even possibly incurring losses (http://cantrip.org/stupidity.html), is probably not the mindset of his workers - and if it is, that would soon change after reading this brilliant piece from the mind of one of the most brilliant progressive internet trolls in the blogosphere.
