Republican Sex Offenders

A while back, a somehow conflating the word "results" with "offenders," a Conservative groupie posted, "If you google 'democrat (sic) sex offenders' you will garner 6.2 million results. If you google 'republican sex offenders' you will receive 1.7 million results(.)  3.64 times more likely than 'Republican sex offenders(.)"

Another intellectually-challenged True Believer decided to take the issue even further, and for reasons known only to himself, decided to prune names of Democrats born after 1940 from a list going back to pre-Colonial times (The underlying list from politicalgraveyard.com is a fascinating read, by the way.):

I knew someone had to have made a list, by now. I found this at 'The Political Graveyard.'
Some of these are older Dems, they also list Repubs too.
While I don't view being gay as criminal, I do view it as criminal when it involves underage boys. Also un-ethical when he/she is portraying themselves as a happily married man (or woman.)

Note that "susoni" graciously said, "While I don't view being gay as criminal, I do view it as criminal when it involves underage boys. Also un-ethical when he/she is portraying themselves as a happily married man (or woman.)." There are no women on his/her list, and also not that susoni fudged a bit with the last three items.  When you subtract the narratives, you can see that ten Democrats appeared on this list.

Another Conservative chronicler noted:

Democrat Pedophiles and Sex Offenders Outnumber Repubs, many Dems re-elected.

The only difference between democrats and republicans when it comes to sex offenders is: Democrats have more, and re-elect them.

Just for starters:

REP. JOHN YOUNG (D-Tex.):
Colleen Gardner, a former staff secretary to Young, told the New York Times that Young increased her salary after she gave in to his sexual advances. In November, Young, who had run unopposed in the safe Democratic district five consecutive times, w More..as reelected with just 61 percent of the vote. The scandal wouldn't go away, and in 1978 Young was defeated in a Democratic primary runoff.

REP. ALLAN HOWE (D-Utah):
Howe was arrested in Salt Lake City on charges of soliciting two policewomen posing as prostitutes. Howe insisted he was set up and refused to resign. But the Democratic Party distanced itself from his candidacy and he was trounced by his Republican opponent in the November election.

REP. FRED RICHMOND (D-N.Y.):
Richmond was arrested in Washington for soliciting sex from a 16-year-old boy. Richmond apologized for his actions, conceding he "made bad judgments involving my private life." In spite of a Democratic primary opponent's attempts to cash in on the headlines, Richmond easily won renomination and reelection. But his career came to an end four years later when, after pleading guilty to possession of marijuana and tax evasion - and amid allegations that he had his staff procure cocaine for him -- he resigned his seat.

REP. JOHN HINSON (D-Miss.):
During his first reelection bid, Hinson stunned everyone by announcing that in 1976 he had been accused of committing an obscene act at a gay haunt in Virginia. Hinson, married and a strong conservative, added that in 1977 he had survived a fire in a gay D.C. movie theater. He was making the disclosure, he said, because he needed to clear his conscience. But he denied he was a homosexual and refused GOP demands that he resign. Hinson won reelection in a three-way race, with 39 percent of the vote. But three months later, he was arrested on charges of attempted oral sodomy in the restroom of a House office building. He resigned his seat on April 13, 1981.

REP. ROBERT BAUMAN (D-Md.):
Bauman, a leading "pro-family" conservative, pleaded innocent to a charge that he committed oral sodomy on a teenage boy in Washington. Married and the father of four, Bauman conceded that he had been an alcoholic but had been seeking treatment. The news came as a shock to voters of the rural, conservative district, and he lost to a Democrat in November.

REP. DAN CRANE (R-Ill.) and REP. GERRY STUDDS (D-Mass.):
The House ethics committee on July 14, 1983, announced that Crane and Studds had sexual relationships with teenage congressional pages -- Crane with a 17-year-old female in 1980, Studds with a 17-year-old male in 1973. Both admitted the charges that same day, and Studds acknowledged he was gay. The committee voted to reprimand the two, but a back-bench Georgia Republican named Newt Gingrich argued that they should be expelled. The full House voted on July 20 instead to censure the two, the first time that ever happened for sexual misconduct. Crane, married and the father of six, was tearful in his apology to the House, while Studds refused to apologize. Crane's conservative district voted him out in 1984, while the voters in Studds's more liberal district were more forgiving. Studds won reelection in 1984 with 56 percent of the vote, and continued to win until he retired in 1996.

SEN. BROCK ADAMS (D-Wash.):
Seattle newspapers reported that Kari Tupper, the daughter of Adams's longtime friends, filed a complaint against the Washington Democrat in July of 1987, charging sexual assault. She claimed she went to Adams's house in March 1987 to get him to end a pattern of harassment, but that he drugged her and assaulted her. Adams denied any sexual assault, saying they only talked about her employment opportunities. Adams continued raising campaign funds and declared for a second term in February of 1992. But two weeks later the Seattle Times reported that eight other women were accusing Adams of sexual molestation over the past 20 years, describing a history of drugging and subsequent rape. Later that day, while still proclaiming his innocence, Adams ended his campaign.

REP. JIM BATES (D-Calif.):
Roll Call quoted former Bates aides in October 1988 saying that the San Diego Democrat made sexual advances toward female staffers. Bates called it a GOP-inspired smear campaign, but also apologized for anything he did that might have seemed inappropriate. The story came too close to Election Day to damage Bates, who won easily. However, the following October the ethics committee sent Bates a "letter of reproval" directing him to make a formal apology to the women who filed the complaint. Although the district was not thought to be hospitable to the GOP, Randy "Duke" Cunningham, a former Navy pilot who was once shot down over North Vietnam, ousted Bates in 1990 by fewer than 2,000 votes.

REP. GUS SAVAGE (D-Ill.):
Savage had fondled a Peace Corps volunteer while on an official visit to Zaire. Savage called the story a lie and blamed it on his political enemies and a racist media. (Savage is black.) In January 1990, the House ethics committee decided that the events did occur, but decided against any disciplinary action because Savage wrote a letter to the woman saying he "never intended to offend" her. Savage was reelected in 1990, but finally ousted in the 1992 primary by Mel Reynolds.

REP. BARNEY FRANK (D-Mass.):
In response to a story in the Washington Times, Frank confirmed that he hired Steve Gobie, a male prostitute, in 1985 to live with and work for him in his D.C. apartment. But Frank, who is gay, said he fired Gobie in 1987 when he learned he was using the apartment to run a prostitution service. The Boston Globe, among others, called on Frank to resign, but he refused. On July 19, 1990, the ethics committee recommended Frank be reprimanded because he "reflected discredit upon the House" by using his congressional office to fix 33 of Gobie's parking tickets. Attempts to expel or censure Frank failed; instead the House voted 408-18 to reprimand him. The fury in Washington was not shared in Frank's district, where he won reelection in 1990 with 66 percent of the vote, and has won by larger margins ever since.

SEN. DANIEL INOUYE (D-Hawaii):
In October 1992, Republican Senate nominee Rick Reed began running a campaign commercial that included a surreptitiously taped interview with Lenore Kwock, Inouye's hairdresser. Kwock said Inouye had sexually forced himself on her in 1975 and continued a pattern of sexual harassment, even as Kwock continued to cut his hair over the years. Inouye, seeking a sixth term, denied the charges. And Kwock said that by running the commercial, Reed had caused her more pain than Inouye had. Reed was forced to pull the ad, and while many voters took out their anger on the Republican, Inouye was held to 57 percent of the vote - the lowest total of his career. A week later, a female Democratic state legislator announced that she had heard from nine other women who claimed Inouye had sexually harassed them over the past decade. But the women didn't go public with their claims, the local press didn't pursue the story, and the Senate Ethics Committee decided to drop the investigation because the accusers wouldn't participate in an inquiry.

REP MEL REYNOLDS (D-Ill.):
Freshman Reynolds was indicted on Aug. 19, 1994, on charges of having sex with a 16-year-old campaign worker and then pressuring her to lie about it. Reynolds, who is black, denied the charges and said the investigation was racially motivated. The GOP belatedly put up a write-in candidate for November, but Reynolds dispatched him in the overwhelmingly Democratic district with little effort. Reynolds was convicted on Aug. 22, 1995 of 12 counts of sexual assault, obstruction of justice and solicitation of child pornography, was sentenced to five years in prison, and resigned his seat on October 1.

Let's not forget:
John Wayne Gacy, rapist, murderer, democrat fund raiser

J.C. Watts, Representative (R-Oklahoma), loud champion of "moral values." Has out-of-wedlock children.

Lest we forget, the Republican Party is the party of "family values," the party that harangues against non-heterosexual, unmarried sex, the party that refuses to entertain the legality of marriage outiside of that between man and woman.

It's all smoke, the Republican Party is all about money, not about the People.

Whether because of hubris, the effect of the Authoritarian Personality, or something else is a topic that deserves further mention and we will develop the theme in coming weeks. Suffice it to say, no Conservative follower has been able to post a list anywhere near the dimensions of  that listed in "Republican Sex Offenders."  It's impossible, Republicans outnumber Democrats in the "sex offender" category way beyond comparison.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Update 6/21/12 3 hours later: Sadly, only one "rebuttal" was received from a Conservative follower: "Somehow you have forgotten all about the numerous charges of sexual harrassment, sexual misconduct (in the oval office(sic)) and even RAPE against former President Bill Clinton - sexual harrassment against his vice president Al Gore, (sic, and Presidential candidate) John Edwards having a "love child" while married - and these are all Democratic Presidents and PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES- just from just the last decade (sic, President Clinton served from 1992 through 2000, the years of "Peace And Prosperity.")!  No need to go all the way back to the 1700s when you're listing Democrats.  :)"

Sic, sic, sic.  Somehow, Anonymous spoke before reading the complete post; a Remedial Reading course at his local junior college would not have been unhelpful for improving his writing; a course in Critical Thinking would have improved his/her debating skills.  But we must be polite.

To Anonymous: First of all your own fellow-conservative presented the link going back to the 1700s, not I;.  Second, there's no "somehow" about it:  He noted the  so-called "The Clinton Rapes," a series of accusations never proven ("charges," as you admitted), no matter how hard the famous, and now discredited for all time, witch-hunter Kenneth Starr tried to prove after spending millions and millions of taxpayer dollars.  The Republican Sex Offenders List is much more definitive in listing convictions, legal charges, and confessions  - as opposed to charges by Republican hatchetmen.  Third, at the bottom of the list you'll find, "This list was made before Mark Foley, David Vitter or Larry Craig!"

Anonymous, a proper rebuttal should seek to disprove my contention by coming up with more Democratic names than the Republican names listed here, and you failed to do this.  By the way, there was no need to shout RAPE nor PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES - anyone reading this blog would understand the terms. :)

The point is that conservatives are too busy diddling little boys to really care if Clinton liked kinky women.

Did that fact just fly right over your head?

  3. Sure, defend the criminals-in-chief. If you read your own article you would see that there are MANY examples above of similar charges - unproven accusations many dismissed, but still quoted here nonetheless. So it's okay if they are only "accusations" if they are against Republicans, but it's not okay if they are only "accusations" against Democrats. Got it.

And by the way, let's not forget this one - please remind me - was this a Democrat or a Republican? Let's talk about this champion of family values!

  4. Also - I'm not going to take the time to craft my own list of Democratic offenders just to counter the "facts" that you dug up in a Google search, without any of your own validation or verification. Congratulations, you know how to cut and paste!

At least I am presenting ideas and examples here that I came up with myself, rather than just mindlessly copying a page that I saw somewhere on the Internet. "I saw it on the Internet, so it MUST be true!".

How about this - I'll come up with a complete up-to-date-list if you will (rather unlikely given the above). However, please know that if we WERE to undertake a comprehensive rebuttal - our job would certainly be far easier - as there is just SO much source material to draw from (as indicated above), just in the last 10 years or so! I've given you 4 examples off the top of my head, and you've given me - how many again? Oh, yeah - ZERO. LOL

  5. Ever conscious about the sensitivities of my more rational fans, I had to think a bit about allowing the follow-up rantings of poor Anonymous to be published, but I realized that this unique opportunity to educate, as well as to entertain, a favorite phrase of the always brilliant P. G. Wodehouse, would be lost: for contained within his rambling harangue is the model for my essay on Conservative rhetoric contained appropriately enough in the tab at the top of the site, "Conservative Rhetoric!" (http://www.criminalizeconservatism.com/p/war-on-america.html)

All six facets of the Conservative rhetoric are illustrated here, and as the fallacious and specious reasoning of the typical Conservative sheeplet is more than evident in Anonymous's Comments, so I shall answer our friend Anonymous thus:

Anonymous, I appreciate your rage in being bested in this argument, but I must hasten to offer the following assistance to you, not without the hope that you will realize the fundamental errors in your rebuttal are the product of a Conservative mindset, and that investigating, then adopting, the many areas of Progressive thinking available to all would do much to improve your life, if not your digestion. Already, due to my gentle prodding, your grammar, syntax, and general sentence structure show admirable improvement over the shoddy piece you first submitted to public scrutiny, though still imperfect. Just as people identify you by your dress when seeing you for the first time, Anonymous, so is their analysis of your intelligence and personality based when they look at your writings - I'm delighted that you have taken my example to heart!

The following should be sufficient to refute your first Comment as well as your second (posted just 14 minutes later, as an apparent "brainstorm" hit after you had believed your argument to be complete):

    1. "Sure, defend the criminals-in-chief. So it's okay if they are only "accusations" if they are against Republicans, but it's not okay if they are only "accusations" against Democrats. Got it."

First and foremost, Anonymous, you must *read* the piece you are disparaging (I ignore the lame attack contained in your "criminals-in-chief," other than to wonder at the use of the plural): I stated in my last response to you that the Republican Sex Offenders list was "much more definitive in listing convictions, legal charges, and convictions - as opposed to charges by Republican hatchetmen." "Much more," Anonymous is not the same as "always," and I think if you review the posts of your fellow Conservatives on whatever forums you hangout at, you'll see the common fallacy in proliferation: "If something happens once, it will always happen again." (I did notice that I ended an above sentence fragment with a preposition, Anonymous, but like Churchill, "that is the errant nonsense that I shall not up with put.")

"And by the way, let's not forget this one - please remind me - was this a Democrat or a Republican? Let's talk about this champion of family values!http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/06/08/anthony-weiner-penis-photo_n_873182.html"

Sarcasm is not the soul of rhetoric, nor does it illustrate a level of maturity in discourse. And parenthetically, Congressman Weiner was never a champion of the Norman Rockwell-like "family values" used to pull the wool over the eyes of Christians that the GOP godfathers are interested in proselytizing. GOP leaders are interested in one common issue: taking us back to the days of feudalism. And while I presented a list of scores and scores of Republican Sex Offenders, Anonymouos, you came up with just one additional Democrat.

    (to be continued.)

    2. "Also - I'm not going to take the time to craft my own list of Democratic offenders just to counter the "facts" that you dug up in a Google search, without any of your own validation or verification. Congratulations, you know how to cut and paste! At least I am presenting ideas and examples here that I came up with myself, rather than just mindlessly copying a page that I saw somewhere on the Internet. 'I saw it on the Internet, so it MUST be true!'."

Sadly, your writing skills have deteriorated from the progress shown in your first Comment. But as you apparently *can* change the worst aspects of your slovenly habits of your writing, we'll let it go - but pay attention, Anonymous, your poor logical thinking skills are only amplified by the apparent lack of familiarity with your Mother Tongue.

"How about this - I'll come up with a complete up-to-date-list if you will (rather unlikely given the above). LOL"

What did I say about shouting, Anonymous? The words, "must," "were," and "zero" are familiar to toddlers as well as to any adult reading the sillier drivel you foist upon them.

But now we're talking turkey! In this paragraph we come to the premise I presented to you yesterday (though your reasoning in qualifying information between that gleaned from online web sites and that extant within the confines of your skull escapes me), that the proportion of Republican malefactors to those coming from the ranks of the Democrats is overwhelmingly in favor of the Democrats.

And I happily accept your challenge!

Apropos of the precedent set by your capo di tutti capi, Mr. Romney, the terms shall be: a ten thousand dollar wager, to be held in the respective towns where we reside, in the confines of a title or escrow company of our choosing, and recorded on video for the purpose of determining the victor. I happily accede to your terms - an escrow or title officer shall ensure that neither of us has access to notes or the internet.

Should you refuse to accept these terms, Anonymous, beware! Your future posting privileges here will be in jeopardy of rescission. However, should this eventuality prove prescient, I wish you only the best of wishes, and hope that you abandon your attachment to all things Conservative.

You have promise, Anonymous - not much, to be sure, but anything in this wonderful world we share is possible! Good luck and keep working on improving your writing skills!

  7. It is with the deepest regret that I announce the rescission of posting privileges on this topic for the Conservative, "Anonymous". Contrary to the example of his party leader, Mr. Romney, Comrade Anonymous not only refused to accept the terms of our bet, but continued flailing at me in the same vein as before, hurling invective after invective at me with language too febrile for the delicacies of the readers of this blog, ending with the retort that his list contained more "powerful Democratic leaders" than the list presented by "Republican Sex Offenders," a fallacious comparison of "quality over quantity," a hapless answer to the premise I proposed.

A tip of the hat to Anonymous for this thought, however: a future essay will address the pernicious actions of the GOP/Conservative leadership in its drive to kick us back to the feudalism of the middle ages (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feudalism).

It must be noted sadly that poor Anonymous refused to admit that he was SHOUTING as he remonstrated with the undersigned over the past two days, though it was there to see by all who read his posts, and illustrative of the famous retort, "Who are you going to believe, me or your lying eyes." A hallmark of the Conservative style in every right wing blog on the Net is denial, and his refusal to admit the blame for hitting the "caps" key would have been transparent to a six-year old.

Again, I refer readers to the tab above, "Conservative Rhetoric (http://www.criminalizeconservatism.com/p/war-on-america.html). Had Anonymous read the lessons posted therein, he would have realized that every thought, every word, every feeble rebuttal would have been anticipated by all astute observers of Conservative behavior in civil debate.

The denial of reality is one step towards a life of insanity, Anonymous; please take my humble example and good wishes with you and steer your life towards good, not evil - forsake those capos who have instilled within you the Code of Omerta that compels you to substitute the denial of guilt for self awareness and good sense.

In the melodious language of our comprades "South of The Border" - so astutely conscious that their self-interests are in danger under another Republican regime, and so admamently against the candicacy of your idol, Mr. Romney - Vaya con Dios mi amigo,

    Joyce, Jnr.
